CodeMiko Banned From Twitch

After using a shock collar live on her Twitch feed, American streamer and YouTuber CodeMiko received her seventh Twitch ban. CodeMiko’s Twitch channel disappeared after the ban, leaving just a message in its place that read, “This channel is temporarily unavailable due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines or Terms of Service”

CodeMiko informed her Discord followers that the shock collar was to blame for the ban (via Dexerto). Although these prohibitions are not always consistently enforced, the Twitch Terms of Service state that the platform does not permit anything “that glorifies, promotes, or encourages self-harm” and that actions that encourage “physically harmful behavior” are also forbidden. On a recent live, Miko and fellow Twitch user HanaxBanana played a game in which they shocked each other. The rule was that if you laugh, you lose, and if you did laugh, the forfeit was being shocked. At the moment, Miko was donning a shock collar.

On Twitch, CodeMiko has around a million fans, and her creator is well-known for V-Tubing, where she appears as a virtual identity with a computer avatar superimposed on her real face. Miko (actual name Youna Kang) employs modern motion capture suits, gloves, and Unreal Engine to bring her alter ego CodeMiko to life.

The creator, who initially incurred debt to buy the pricey equipment required for V-tubing, has been covered in publications like The Verge and Business Insider as an example of a streamer who succeeded. Over 500,000 people are CodeMiko’s YouTube subscribers, and her videos have received more than 40,000,000 views.

Although it’s unknown how long CodeMiko’s Twitch suspension will last, it’s not the first time the platform has banned someone for hurting oneself while livestreaming. Another well-known incident involved Dellor, a livestream who was banned for hitting keyboards in the face during less-than-successful Apex Legends matches.

Another streamer was recently banned for putting their hands on fire as part of a costume.
