When he was fourteen and creating his first Xbox Live account, he thought wolves were cool.

In addition to playing board games with his friends when he was younger, DumbDog grew up playing a variety of Nintendo video games, such as Super Smash Bros. and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. With his grandmother, he has also played every Mario Party game. He continued his education in college after high school but left after three years due to a lack of interest in his Computer Science major.

He first began posting content to his YouTube channel as a result of watching Let's Play videos made by other content producers, which gave him the idea to make his own. When AlpacaPatrol contacted him in 2011 to collaborate on content for Binding of Isaac, he first encountered them. They quickly grew close, and he eventually became a member of the cast of the Northernlion Live Super Show (NLSS). A few months after they started working together, AlpacaPatrol suggested that he give Twitch streaming a try. Since then, he has been streaming because he fell in love with it.
