Gamertag origin

He struggled to come up with a name for himself when he and his friend first started tricks-shotting, so his friend suggested "RugRat," which he later abbreviated when he joined SoaR.

How they got into gaming

Growing up, Rug enjoyed making people laugh and spent a lot of his free time playing basketball. Due to his height, he was unable to join his middle school team, and as a result, he became depressed. He started playing video games heavily around that time, especially Call of Duty. His attendance and grades at school suffered as a result. Consequently, his PlayStation 3 was confiscated by his parents. His parents made a deal with him that would allow him to get his PS3 back in exchange for finishing his homework before playing video games and for not skipping any more classes after they realized how depressed he was. He started getting into YouTube around that time. He first learned about FaZe and trick-shotting in 2010 from one of his high school friends. He and his friend decided to form their own trick-shotting clan because they thought it was cool-looking. He had aspirations of one day joining FaZe. After graduating from high school, he attended college but left after being paid $11,000 USD by YouTube. His parents were furious with him, but they eventually changed their minds after he showed them that content creation was a viable profession.

How they got into streaming

On July 11, 2012, he started his YouTube channel, and three days later, he began uploading Call of Duty trick-shotting videos to it. After some time, he made the decision to add prank and real-world vlogging content to his repertoire. He was noticed by smaller teams as he got better, and he gradually made his way up to bigger and bigger teams. As he grew, he began incorporating his family into his content, and eventually they split off to launch their own lucrative YouTube channels as well. In August 2012, he joined SoaR Gaming, which led FaZe to take notice of him. He accepted CBass' invitation to join FaZe Clan on November 26, 2012, after the latter was impressed by some of his CoD: Black Ops II videos. In 2017, Gorilla Core became FaZe Clan's first business sponsor. FaZe was a company that had received shares and had been registered at that time. FaZe Rug is still listed as a co-owner and has received a sizeable share of the $240 million USD company. He made a few attempts at Twitch streaming in June 2021 and January 2022, but he never really got into it and mainly stuck to uploading to his YouTube channel.
