xQc is a combination of his last name's last letter and the abbreviation for his home province, Quebec. He later added the OW for 'Overwatch,' after his account was suspended in January 2018.

xQcOW has spent his entire life playing video games. He enjoys Blizzard's games and has spent a lot of time playing WoW, Warcraft III, and a few others. He began streaming his gameplays in 2015 because he disliked playing alone and desired company. He began playing Overwatch in 2016, and his abilities were quickly recognized. This resulted in a significant increase in his follower count over time.

As part of DatZit Gaming, he competed in the DreamHack Montreal BYOC Overwatch tournament in July 2016. This provided him with the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities, which led to his invitation to join Team Q? as part of their tournament roster.
