Bugha is the First Fortnite World Cup Solo Champion!

16-year-old Kyle Giersdorf, aka Bugha, has come first with 59 points in the first-ever Fortnite World Cup Solo Championships, making him $3 Million USD richer. He won with a lead of 26 points ahead of second place winner 15-year-old Jaydan Ashman, aka Wolfiez, who managed to accumulate 33 points.

Bugha has been a member of Sentinels since March 25, 2019 after some of the other members had watched his gameplay and encouraged the organization to sign him on. Although he had won a couple of minor online tournaments, it was from that point on that his grind and training towards qualifying for the world cup really began. Despite continuing to attend school and keep up with his homework, he would still do his best to put in at least six hours of training and scrims per day.

In mind-April 2019, he managed to qualify for the solo cup finals during Week One of the qualifiers by placing first on the NA servers. From then on, Bugha quickly transitioned from relative obscurity to community members arguing that his mechanical skill was beyond those of Mongraal and MrSavage, who were both considered by many to be favorites for bringing home the world cup.

During the world cup itself, he focused mainly on racking up points through kills rather than playing it safe to try and make it to the end game. This strategy clearly worked out for him. Now he just needs to figure out what to do with his new-found fame and fortune.
