Ludwig Defends Twitch

Despite being critical of the Amazon-owned platform himself, YouTube broadcaster Ludwig defended Twitch from what he called “the dumbest” reason why people criticize the streaming website.

Over the past several months, Twitch has encountered a number of conflicts from the streaming community, from announcing its new criteria for branded content to refusing all producers a 70/30 subscription income split compensation owing to the “high cost” of running the platform. While the Amazon-owned platform has since undone a number of changes, including its revised standards for branded content and its more recent introduction of the Partner Plus program, top talent has started to leave the company as Kick, a rival streaming network, gains popularity.

Twitch is still being criticized by many people for a variety of reasons, but for once YouTube streamer Ludwig has defended the site, responding to those who accuse it of bias. YouTuber ‘WillyMacShow’ has branded Twitch as the worst platform for streamers, claiming that the site’s preference for Pokimane is the cause of the ongoing discussion about whether platform is best for streamers. “Twitch is literally the worst site of the three. They ban people just because Pokimane doesn’t like them. Site sucks,” they said.

Ludwig, who was formerly Twitch’s top creator before signing an exclusive contract with YouTube in 2021, has defended the site for the “dumb” take, though. Ludwig wrote; “Of the hundreds of terrible things you could meaningfully criticize Twitch for I think you said the dumbest reason possible.”

Ludwig maintained his stance despite the validity of the complaint being defended by a number of fans, offering a number of other explanations for why users would not like Twitch. “Twitch has zero ability to grow new creators Creators grow through Reddit, YT, TikTok, and bring people to Twitch and all of Twitch’s new product features are to extract more money out of viewers while simultaneously paying streamers less,” he said.

The JiDion scandal in early 2022, where the streamer was permanently banned from the platform after sending a hate raid to Pokimane, was brought up by WillyMacShow, who responded despite the general consensus that there are more important topics to address. However, this behavior was against Twitch’s community rules.
