Twitch Wrongfully Bans Jamada

With the EMEA Masters Summer 2023 beginning on August 14, the European amateur scene is in full swing. However, one English-speaking caster will likely miss the majority of it owing to what they believe to be a “wrongful” Twitch suspension.

Adrian “Jamada” Wharlton-Thorne, an LPL and EMEA caster who covered both the EMEA Masters Play-In and group phase, announced he wouldn’t be able to work at the competition since his personal channel was suspended for two weeks on August 10 for “hateful conduct.” The caster claimed that his initial appeal was denied and that he did not receive any justification for his suspension. He said in a Reddit thread, “I have spent the last 3 days reaching out to relevant parties to try and find a resolution to no success. Whilst I remain suspended I currently can not appear on any Twitch broadcast.”

He wrote, alluding to the EMEA Masters competition, “For the first time in 3 years I may miss out on the group stage of a tournament I’ve been a core member of and am very very passionate about attending. The days I have been hired for are the only work days I have for this month and due to some added personal news that I received recently, losing this income is incredibly detrimental.”

On August 13, he provided an update on his circumstance in an effort to draw attention to his problem with Twitch, but it appears that he received no reaction. On August 13, his Reddit thread was upvoted to the top of the League of Legends forum, and many criticized Twitch for suspending a channel without giving any justification in the comments. One of the most popular comments on the topic was, “Why don’t they just put the description of the offense with the ban so it’s easy to appeal for themselves if needed,”

Jamada’s ability to participate in either the group stage or today’s Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. CT’s 2023 EMEA Masters Summer Play-In stage is yet unknown.
